Doctor Who The Woman Who Fell To Earth Salad Man
BBC

Possibly the most famous celebrity cameo in Doctor Who history is this short scene in City Of Death, featuring John Cleese and Eleanor Bron as a couple of punters discussing the artistic merit of the Doctor's TARDIS.

The story goes that Cleese and Bron only agreed to do the cameo if it was kept under wraps, and as such, their appearance was a total surprise to viewers watching live at the time.

Though the scene isn't rip-roaringly hilarious or anything like that, Cleese is such a funny guy that you can't help but chuckle when he first pops up. The biggest laugh occurs moments later though, as the TARDIS disappears before the pair's eyes, leaving them totally bemused.

To quote Bron's character, this short moment is "absolutely exquisite."

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
