The character of Tahani Al-Jamil was consistently the most hit and miss of the primary characters, with the gag of her namedropping various celebrities growing tired as the seasons rolled on. It was of no fault of Jameela Jamil who always delivered the lines with perfectly 'posh' delivery, it just got real repetitive real quick.

This episode proves to be Tahani's moment to shine, no longer just a hindrance to Eleanor and Michael's plans, but the only person who can get through to the first human in the experiment, gossip columnist John. While the trading of barbs at the expense of Hollywood celebrities is amusing, it's Tahani's realisation that John and her are kindred spirits who both crave affection that makes the episode genuinely moving.

The secondary plot line in which Eleanor enjoys watching the torture that 'kind of ex' Chidi suffers at her hands also works effortlessly. This storyline serves as a thoughtful exploration of relationship break ups and how one can unwittingly take out their pain on those they love.
