10 Best Episodes That Make Bad TV Seasons Worth Watching

4. Basic Human Anatomy - Community (Season 4)

Community Season 4 Basic Human Anatomy
NBC

The other body switching episode.

Season Four of Community, nicknamed the gas leak season, was made without creator Dan Harmon and had a fair few misfires, out of character behaviours, emotional moments with poor delivery and a few botched concept episodes. However, its biggest shining light is Basic Human Anatomy, which feels more in tune with the other, less gas leaky seasons of the show.

It involves Troy pretending to switch bodies with Abed, in order for Abed (acting as Troy) to be the one to go on his date with Britta, and break up with her. Thus ends the least popular romantic relationship in the show’s history.

The side plot of the Dean acting like he’s switched bodies with Jeff is absolutely hilarious too. Jim Rash, Donald Glover and Danny Pudi all play different parts to their usual characters here, and each demonstrate their range brilliantly.

Though Season 4 does reach for emotional moments fairly often, Troy and Abed each working through Troy’s break up while playing each other is one of the only times they get it right. The balance between goofy and genuine emotion is perfect, and it’s all done in Community’s typical off kilter style.
