3. A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms - Game Of Thrones (Season 8)
Game Of Thrones’ final season was a car crash of epic proportions. The first episode dragged and failed to understand the characters, while the much anticipated Night King battle in episode three was poorly lit, anticlimactic and seemingly at odds with the tropes and plot of the previous seven seasons.
Then we had a nothing burger follow up with more out of character moments in episode four, a ridiculous twist with no set up for episode five, and a truly disastrous finale.
Episode Two was an example of what could have been. The whole time is spent within Winterfell, exploring the characters and their motivations, exploring what makes them fight and forging even deeper connections than before.
It seemed to be setting up some hard goodbyes and closing arcs off expertly. It’s a shame that the rest of the season ruined what it had built, but in isolation it’s fantastic.
We see different yet realistic sides to a lot of players in the game of thrones, but the clear standout is when Jaime knights Brienne in front of a delighted Tormund and Pod, who’s absolutely bursting with pride. His rendition of Jenny’s Song completes the scene perfectly.
