4. Lena Dunham (Hannah - Girls)

Lena Dunham is a very impressive individual. At just 27 she is the star, director and writer of the hit HBO series Girls, in which she plays Hannah. Dunham has claimed Girls as the antithesis of Gossip Girl, which she described as "teens duking it out on the Upper East Side". Girls, meanwhile, tells the story of four young women in their twenties trying to keep their heads above the water living in New York. What's so great about Dunham's portrayal of Hannah, whose experiences are often based on real events from Lena Dunham's own life, is that she isn't a flawless character who the viewer constantly agrees with. In fact at times it's very clear she's making wrong decisions and can often even come across as unlikeable or unsympathetic. However, we'd say this is what makes Hannah such an interesting lead character, she isn't a two-dimensional caricature and the flaws she has are what make her so realistic and believable.
