10 Best New TV Shows Nobody Is Watching
2. Party Down
Party Down has always been the ultimate underdog sitcom. Despite an all-star cast including Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, and Jane Lynch, the show’s initial two- season run boasted a tiny viewership, in no small part due to its airing on the relatively anonymous Starz network.
While the show became a cult favourite in the interim, it was still no surprise that the 2023 relaunch hardly set the world alight. What was surprising was just how great the show remained, some 13 years after its note-perfect melancholy finale. Party Down didn’t need to come back, but when it did, it did so in real style.
One of the few comedies to properly utilise the pandemic in its storytelling, Party Down’s third season brings together the core of its cast of misfit caterers in a surprisingly believable fashion. The budgets remain low but the cast’s passion for the project is clear to see. That’s not surprising; few shows allow such naturalistic acting as this one, while never skimping on the laughs.
Messing with a near-perfect, decade-plus show is always risky business; this one didn’t just do the job but added something meaningful to the ongoing story.
