Smulders plays Robin, one of the show's most complex and twisting characters. She is fiercely independent, loyal, career-driven and funny. She goes through a lot on the show, from dating Ted, dating Barney, marrying Barney, making waves as a news anchor and finding out she can't have kids. Oh, and she was once a pop star in Canada.

All of this boasts a serious challenge for Smulders, but she's always there to tackle what the script throws at her. With her brutal honesty, respectable confidence and ability to take life as it comes, hers is an emotional rollercoaster of a journey, and none of it would have been as compelling without Smulders on the ball, even if the writing fails her in the final seasons and causes her to be a touch too loud and over-the-top in places.
