10 Best Performances In How I Met Your Mother
4. Jason Segel - Marshall Eriksen
Jason Segel remains the most prolific comedy actor of the main cast. A long-time member of Hollywood's Frat Pack, he has starred in such celebrated comedies as Knocked Up (2007), Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) and This Is 40 (2012). In HIMYM, he portrays Marshall Eriksen, Ted's best friend, Lily's husband and, along with his wife, the glue that holds the gang together.
Marshall is a fantastic character, and is easily the gang's most endearing and likable member. Loyal to a fault, often the voice of reason amongst his friends, Segel allows Marshall to not just be the sweet moral centre of the show, but also its most witty and constantly evolving character.
Segel's comedic timing is close to unrivalled, and you need look no further than such great episodes as Bad News, Last Words and Swarley to see his dramatic chops in action. The actor may have been vocal about his loss of interest in the show during its later seasons, but the professional he is, it never really shows on screen.
