At the end of the 'Trial of a Time Lord' season, we find out that the Valeyard has actually survived his fate in the matrix, but what ever happened to him? Well, so far, he has returned to face off with the Sixth Doctor a few more times, before recently encountering the Eighth Doctor in the Time War.

The Valeyard’s story is very closely knitted with the Sixth Doctor, with a reversal in the 'Trial' storyline, with the Valeyard being the one on trial, as well as his masterplan which takes place in the Sixth Doctor’s 'Last Adventure'. Whilst his story maybe tied to the end of the Sixth Doctor, there is still very much room for a return, as shown in the Eighth Doctor Time War story: 'The War Valeyard’.

Michael Jayston was magnificent in the role back in 1986, as well as still on audio. Whether a return on TV would feature him in the role or a new version, which would provide more of a surprise, the Valeyard is one of the most intriguing enigmas to come out of Doctor Who. To explore his life further has been a real treat at Big Finish, something that we sadly never saw on screen.

Due to a later entry on this list, the moment we should have got on screen is the 'Trial of the Valeyard' story. As mentioned this was a role reversal and sees the Valeyard on trial for his part in the 23rd season of the show. This story is the perfect sequel to 'Trial of a Time Lord' and would provide fans with many sought-after answers.
