From the movie franchise, there are several of the films that stand out above the rest. Ask most fans which their favourite is and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is probably going to be in the top three at least. So, when the film was effectively remade in the form of Star Trek Into Darkness, it felt particularly sour to movie goers, not least because of the sheer amount of denying it was going to be what it ended up becoming.

Benedict Cumberbatch is a compelling villain here, though as show as he shows up on screen its blatantly obvious that he is Khan. When it is later revealed that he is, in fact, the genetically engineered tyrant, it is treated with such wonder that is is a surprise the film doesn't stop mid-scene simply to make sure you got the point.

Couple this with the awful switch around of the Khan cry (pictured) with McCoy curing death at the end, Star Trek Into Darkness feels like a film made by committee, dedicated only to hitting certain buzzwords and never searching for a coherant script.
