10 Biggest LGBTQIA+ Moments In Star Trek

3. Dr Julian Bashir And Ken Dax

In The Dogs Of War and What You Leave Behind, Dr. Bashir and Ezri Dax finally admit their feelings for each other, and, with both surviving the Dominion War, they look set to have a happy, loving future together. However, Alexander Siddig and Andrew Robinson revealed in Alone Together that this sadly wasn't to be. In the years following the events of What You Leave Behind, Ezri died, although this, initially, didn't stop Dax's relationship with Bashir.

Again, the symbiont was moved to a new host, though this one was male. Ken Dax continued to love Bashir, who in turn loved him back. Bashir does acknowledge that it took a little while to get used to the idea of Ken Dax, as he had never seen himself loving a man. However, they did their best to make it work. He even spoke about getting together with the O'Briens, as Keiko and Ken were both botanists and got on like a house on fire.

However, echoing the events of Rejoined, Trill society got in the way and put an end to their relationship. Once again, it is due to the problem with continuing relationships when symbionts have moved on to new hosts. Bashir, being human, represents a step forward in the depiction of sexuality. While it doesn't suggest that sexuality is a choice, it does at least offer a hope that, sometimes, love can overcome some barriers.
