Alongside the rise of a vicious subsection of fans came the show's lowest point. The Szechuan Sauce incident.

During episode one of season three, Rick takes his end of episode rant on a strange tangent that no one could have expected. The episode had mentioned the sauce earlier, however the repetition within the tirade caused fans to wonder what they had missed out on.

An online petition quickly cropped up, asking McDonalds to reintroduce the infamous sauce. To everyone's surprise, the company actually agreed and offered the sauce for one day only. The catch being, it was in very small quantities in a small selection of restaurants.

The nice gesture quickly backfired on the fast food giant, as things turned ugly in stores that couldn't keep up with demand. Fans had driven for hours to try and get their hands on a sauce packet and were sadly unable to keep their emotions in check.

Countless videos of freak outs, abuse and violence spilled onto the internet starring fans of the show who were upset about missing out. McDonalds responded by releasing a larger batch of the sauce, but the damage was already done to the show's reputation.
