10 Biggest Star Trek Battles We Never Got To See

7. The Battle Of Betazed

In The Pale Moonlight is both one of the darkest and greatest episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, displaying the trauma that enduring the mundanity of war, along with the fear of losing loved ones inflict on Starfleet officers, told through the log of Captain Sisko. During the episode, he is woken in the middle of the night to hear that Betazed, one of the core planets in the Federation, has fallen to the Dominion.

The planet’s defence force, the ninth fleet, is taken completely unawares by the Jem’hadar and the planet falls within ten hours. This can have dire consequences for the Federation as Betazed is deep inside Starfleet territory and the Dominion now have a foothold, allowing them to target Andor, Tellar, Vulcan and Earth.

While Deep Space Nine certainly did show some of the battles of the war, this is a turning point. The fall of Betazed is almost directly responsible for Sisko’s decision to trick the Romulans into the war. The casualties of the battle were never shown on-screen, which leaves the fate of Lwaxana Troi up in the air as well.
