10 Biggest TV Disappointments Of 2016
5. The Blackfish Subplot On Game Of Thrones
Game Of Thrones has so many subplots and characters you sometimes need a graph to connect everything, and the show isn’t above tabling characters for a few years until they’re needed again. Season six was unusually efficient with wrapping up loose ends and reintroducing old characters; Arya finally gained revenge for The Red Wedding, The Hound was confirmed alive and we even caught up with Beric Dondarrion.
One character fans were eager to see was Brynden Tully, aka The Blackfish. Catelyn’s uncle disappearing following The Red Wedding, and after the Frey’s took Riverrun he quickly seized it back from them. It was assumed his reintroduction would play a big part in Jon and Sansa’s quest to take back Winterfell, but nope. He appears for one episode where he refuses to give up Riverrun, and when his spineless nephew gives it up to the Frey’s he decides to fight to the death before running.
Season six was a bit rushed with resolving plot points, but the sheer anti-climatic of The Blackfish's return was unforgivable. He doesn’t even get an onscreen death.
