10 Biggest Wasted Opportunities In Game Of Thrones

9. The Golden Company

The Golden Company was a let down from the start, when it was revealed that Season 7’s finale tease of elephants would not come to pass.

Even as simply soldiers though, they were mentioned repeatedly, with Harry Strickland even thrown a few lines. When Daenerys takes King’s Landing though, they’re wiped out in an instant.

Even if Daenerys was always going to win, it would have been nice to see what the hype was about with a couple of action scenes.

There is potentially some opportunity for this to be poetic irony; the best Cersei’s gold could buy, snuffed out in an instant. That though is doing the show a kindness. Everything else in Season 8 appears rushed, so the Golden Company arc doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt.

Speaking of Cersei’s gold, the whole Iron Bank plot seemed to fizzle out too. It’s hard to claim that economic turmoil counts as wasted potential as much as some of these other examples though.

You can probably put Bronn in this category too, being in Season 8 apparently just for the sake of it, and having zero impact on the plot overall.
