10 Brilliantly Simple Opening Credits In Awesome TV Shows
1. Atlanta
Donald Glover’s auteur sitcom breaks just about every boundary imaginable - so it’s unsurprising that this would extend to the opening titles. For Season One the titles involved the Atlanta logo superimposed on a variety of backgrounds, set around Atlanta, normally with fictional trap music played over the top.
These backgrounds include a view of the Atlanta skyline, a grimy floor being mopped, a cracked sidewalk, a basketball hoop and many more. Sometimes the text is embedded into the actual scene; in one episode, the embroidery on a restaurant tablecloth reads "Atlanta"; in another, the title is found on a tramp stamp.
Inventive without ever being excessively so, the Atlanta opening credits are just another feather in the show's impressive cap.
