10 Buffy The Vampire Slayer And Angel Plots That Were Never Resolved

9. The Guardians

Buffy The Guardian
Fox

In the penultimate episode of Buffy's final season, she is introduced to the Guardian. This woman is the last in a long line of those who watched over the Watcher's council, keeping secrets from them and keeping an ultimate weapon for the Slayer's final battle.

To be charitable, this was an interesting twist on the Slayer mythology. To be honest, this was a Deus Ex Machina in the worst possible way, as Buffy desperately needed to be wrapped up as it went into its series finale.

However - had the show been extended, it would have been fascinating to explore the idea of the Guardians more fully. The Watchers' Council was gone, so there was little to no help coming from there - despite Andrew's attempts to start a new one. This ancient power that the Guardian spoke of was something that most surely should have been expanded upon.

However, the role of the Guardian was relegated to being introduced and almost immediately killed, which didn't do much for their reputation as a power as old as the Slayer line has existed.
