10 Cancelled Star Wars Clone Wars Episodes We Never Got To See
An ancient Sith Temple on Coruscant?!
When Disney acquired Lucasfilm and Star Wars in 2012, one of the heartbreaking decisions they made was to cancel the animated series, Star Wars The Clone Wars, which was midway through its fifth season. A clear reason for the show's cancellation was never given, but it was soon replaced by its successor, Star Wars: Rebels.
Because of the sudden cancellation, the production team was still working hard on a number of episodes that would have stretched to at least three more seasons. Some of these episodes were then later released, whereas many weren't in a finished enough state to do so.
Thankfully, Disney saw sense and with the launch of their streaming service Disney+, have allowed the show to have a proper conclusion with the release of Season 7. Despite this however, there are still numerous episodes that were in various stages of development that will unfortunately never be completed. Some were lucky enough to be adapted into other media formats such as books and comics, while others exist only in very early animation clips. Most of them though are nothing more than exciting rumours and a few concept sketches.
With that being said, it's fun to look at what could have been, so let's look at ten of those cancelled Star Wars Clone Wars Episodes that we never got to see...
10. Crystal Crisis On Utapau
The Crystal Crisis on Utapau arc is the only one on this list that is available to watch, in its semi-completed form. The four-part story reels were uploaded to StarWars.com and is therefore considered completely canon to the universe.
The episodes take place on the familiar planet of Utapau, as seen in Revenge of the Sith, and follows Anakin and Obi-Wan as they try to escape the clutches of General Grievous, who possesses a sought after kyber crystal. Although not explicitly stated in the episodes, it is assumed that Palpatine planned to use the crystal to power the laser of his Death Star, so it is a significant story in the overall Star Wars timeline.
It would have been nice to see the planet of Utapau in a finished episode, but seeing it in its rough form is certainly better than not seeing anything at all. The episodes are still available to watch online in full, albeit in their rough state.
