10 Categoric Reasons Why The Simpsons Is Better Than Family Guy

6. More Memorable Characters

This isn't to say that Family Guy doesn't have memorable characters of its own - it's just that The Simpsons has more of them! The denizens of Springfield are far more varied and likely to stick in the mind. Here's a little exercise: name ten The Simpsons characters not counting the main family. Then name ten Family Guy characters. Which one was easier to come up with? Which list has more standouts? Krusty, Mr. Burns, Patty and Selma, Comic Book Guy, Professor Frink, Mayor Quimby, Chief Wiggum, Mrs. Krabappel, Principal Skinner, Ralph Wiggum - those were the first that popped to mind. Now for Family Guy: Joe, Cleveland, Quagmire, Mayor West, Greased Up Deaf-Guy, Herbert, the Evil Monkey, Death, Tricia Takanawa, Tom Tucker. That took twice as long, and aside from Mayor West (Adam West steals every scene he's in on Family Guy), and Peter's drinking buddies, there's not much too it. The evil monkey barely counts as a character, same with death. Tricia Takanawa hasn't been seen all that much these days, and that's almost all of the memorably Family Guy characters (Doctor Hartman, Carter Pewterschmidt, and a couple others might count). Meanwhile, there were many Simpsons' characters that weren't even mentioned; Flanders, Smithers, Duffman, Lenny, Carl, Lou, Apu, Hans Moleman, the Sea Captain, Chalmers, the squeaky-voiced teen, Gil Gunderson, Cookie Kwan, Sideshow Bob, Sideshow Mel... you get the idea.
