10 Categoric Reasons Why The Simpsons Is Better Than Family Guy

7. They Haven't Attempted To Just Shock

Family Guy's later years were plagued with shock humour attempts that fell flat. Bestiality jokes, Stewie's sexuality, cutaway gags that included Peter having sex with a rhinoceros and plots that include Peter losing his memory and having an orgy. None of it was particularly funny. Now, shocking can be funny - but when attempts at shock humour fall flat, they tend to fall flat harder than most jokes. The number of times these jokes have left a room silent, or had friends look at one another to exclaim "what exactly was that supposed to be?" has been on the rise for the Griffin clan in recent years, coinciding with a dark age similar to what The Simpsons went through in the mid-naughts. The Simpsons, on the other hand, have mostly avoided this, with the exception of the ill-advised Panda rape joke from years ago (when Homer was Mr. Burns' prank monkey). And even when it does something "shocking" it's usually not that shocking. Once again, that gives them the edge in being the best show - a lot of being the best is knowing what not to do.
