10 Doctor Who Moments Peter Capaldi Can't Be Darker Than
9. The Ninth Doctor Tortures A Dalek
When the show came back in 2005, it came with a new brooding version of the Doctor. Lacking the eccentric fashions or received pronunciation of his predecessors, Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor was a stripped-back hero haunted by the actions of his past. Many are expecting Capaldi to be more on Eccleston's side of the spectrum but it is hard to imagine any other Doctor reacting with such searing venom when meeting his old enemy, the Dalek. Believing that the Daleks had all been wiped out in the Time War that killed his people, the Doctor is angry and terrified that just one survived. Laughing madly to hide his rage, the Doctor decides what he has to do - 'exterminate.' He proceeds to electrocute the Dalek - despite it's cries for mercy - and would have killed it too if not for the soldiers of the Dalek's owner, Van Statten, stopping him. It's a famous moment for fans and perhaps the greatest demonstration of the Doctor's hatred for his greatest enemy ever seen in the show. Seeing as the Doctor can't have the quite the same hostility towards them now that the Time Lords are (sort of) safe, it is unlikely that the Twelfth Doctor will deal with the Daleks with the same level of vitriol when he meets them for the first time later this year.
