10 Doctor Who Actors Who Have Gained Recognition In The US
7. Felicity Jones
Felicity Jones made a somewhat fleeting appearance in Doctor Who back in 2008 - so much so that you can be forgiven for not even remembering she's been in the series at all. Suffice to say she was tragically underused in The Unicorn and the Wasp in which she starred as Robina Redmond, one of the red herring suspects of the episode's Agatha Christie inspired murder mystery. She's certainly been making a name for herself since, though, and her critically acclaimed portrayal of Jane Hawking in the Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything (which is technically a British film even though it got released in the US first) has even put her in line to receive her first Oscar nomination. She's already been shortlisted for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama and it looks like a nod at the prestigious Academy Awards will be following suit in 2015, too. She also received recognition for her starring role in the 2011 indie film Like Crazy which won her multiple accolades including a Sundance Film Festival award for her breakout performance as Anna Gardner. Like Crazy is also the only time she'll ever be able to say that a boy chose her over Jennifer Lawrence, so it's worth hanging on to it for that reason alone.
