10 Doctor Who Actors Who Have Gained Recognition In The US
5. Arthur Darvill
While so far the names on this list have all left their Stateside stamp on the big and/or small screens, Arthur Darvill opted to to tread the boards instead. After leaving his popular role as Amy's long suffering beau, Rory Williams, in Doctor Who (he died in his last episode, which was so unlike him), the actor headed across the pond to showcase another of his talents on Broadway when he took on the title role of Guy in the popular musical Once. Based on the Academy Award winning film of the same name, Once tells the story of two kindred spirits who find each other on the bustling streets of Dublin. The character was certainly worlds away from Rory the Roman and it gave Arthur the opportunity to show audiences the musical side of him which he unfortunately never got to convey in Doctor Who (well, not in an actual episode, anyway - who remembers this behind the scenes Christmas classic?). He proved that he's a man of many talents and last year he was given the honour of performing one of the show's most popular songs, When Your Mind's Made Up, at the Tony Awards which is certainly something to tell the grandkids! He has also appeared in Once a lot closer to home, too. Earlier this year he reprised the role for a limited time in London and it's a shame he couldn't have become a permanent fixture in the West End version. He's far too busy filming Broadchurch for that, though.
