10 Doctor Who Actors Who Have Gained Recognition In The US

4. James Corden

In the UK James Corden is a household name for being one of the creators and stars of the popular sitcom Gavin & Stacey so Doctor Who fans welcomed him with open arms when he was announced as one of the guest stars of Matt Smith's debut series back in 2010. Thanks to his role as Craig Owens in the series he has become one of the show's most desirable companions that never were but his career has gone from strength to strength over the last few years so he probably won't be committing to any long term stints in the TARDIS for the foreseeable. The door has been left open for Stormageddon, though. Since his last appearance in Doctor Who he's won a coveted Tony award for his role in One Man, Two Guvnors on Broadway and since then he's set his sights on conquering the bright lights of Hollywood. He hasn't been doing too badly thus far, either - he can be seen in Disney's new musical fantasy Into the Woods as The Baker and he's just landed what's probably the biggest gig of his career so far by being chosen as Craig Ferguson's successor on The Late Late Show. It's no secret that Craig is a self confessed Whovian himself so James' stint in the series probably had something to do with it.
