10 Doctor Who Bloopers You Need To See

10. Shakespeare Gets A Phone Call

Filming any kind of period drama must be a very odd situation. People dressed from head to toe in historical costumes, sat around on their mobile phones and surrounded by crew members wearing jeans and trainers!

But once the cameras roll and the scene is set, it's like you've been transported through time - unless one of those modern inventions interrupts the illusion.

This is exactly what happened during the filming of Series 3's The Shakespeare Code. The episode did a fantastic job of recreating this period of British history, with Shakespeare and his pals sitting around, drinking beer and flirting with the barmaid in a grungy 16th century pub.

But then, the legendary playwright's phone starts to ring (0:19 in the video below).

There's something overwhelmingly bizarre about seeing William Shakespeare pull a 2007 mobile phone out of his pocket (which, by modern standards, also feels like it's from the 16th century) and claim it's a call from his agent.

In reality, actor Dean Lennox Kelly really did get a call from his agent mid-scene. Although, you can be sure that, if they existed back in his time, Shakespeare would've definitely had an agent too! They probably wouldn't have contacted him on a Nokia though.

Sometimes you hear my voice, sometimes you see my face and sometimes you read my words! But I’m usually away with the faeries and timelords! ?‍♀️

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
