10 Doctor Who Characters Nobody Wants To See Return

Some of the characters in this list are dead (not that that's a huge obstacle in Doctor Who anyway), significantly reducing their chances of a return. Benni and Vilma fall into this camp, so, if nothing else, let this be a cautionary tale for future Doctor Who writers not to try anything like this again.

After the stellar Series 12 opener Spyfall, fans were treated to one of the worst stories in the show in Orphan 55. This episode also gave us two of the most annoying characters in Doctor Who history: Benni and Vilma.

We're introduced to the couple at the start of the episode, but things go south when mysterious creatures start killing people. When the survivors initially regroup, Vilma is left without her beloved partner Benni, and what happens next instantly became one of the cringiest moments in the show, as well as an overnight meme.

All together now folks: "BENNNNIIIIIII!"

Vilma screaming out for Benni every two minutes was meant to be endearing but it was actually laughable, making the supposedly "tense" sequences in this episode just downright awkward. Even when he died, she didn't pack it in!

Doctor Who has a habit of featuring unlikeable, pointless supporting characters who do nothing but waste screen time - someone's got to be cannon fodder, after all - and Benni and Vilma are some of the most notable offenders.
