10 Doctor Who Characters Nobody Wants To See Return

Through no fault of their own, several actors are sadly sidelined in the show due to reasons such as an overcrowded TARDIS, or dislike from writers. Matthew Waterhouse's Adric was certainly a victim of this, and sadly became one of the most hated characters in the show's history.

Originally joining Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor, Adric was only Waterhouse's second major acting role, leaving him way out of his depth alongside Baker and Peter Davison. Adric then became a victim of an overcrowded TARDIS in his sole season with Peter Davison, as he was often fighting for lines against companions Tegan and Nyssa.

Adric also came across as extremely unlikeable at times. He's a maths genius who simply knows the answer to everything, and frequently answers back to the Doctor and his fellow companions, which only added to the audience's dislike of the character.

He was killed off in one of the most memorable moments of the show in 1982's Earthshock, and was pretty much never mentioned again - that is, until The Power of the Doctor, where he received a rather sweet namedrop in a conversation between Tegan and the Fifth Doctor.
