10 Doctor Who Characters That Should Return
4. Ace
Ace is just awesome. Plain and simple. Companions had a certain stereotype prior to Ace's arrival, one that indeed gave them a bad rep. Once Ace came into the picture things radically altered. From the companion being more head strong. Them being able to take care of themselves. The companion feeling more three dimensional in their characterisation. To actually having clear definitive development as a character. And, of course, holding a more personal connection with The Doctor.
Undoubtedly, Ace became the archetype for the modern-day companion. Beyond all that obvious stuff, Ace was just a breath of fresh air, and delivered a character model unheard of in Doctor Who at that point. She was a street kid who was rough around the edges, carried baseball bats, and even made her own explosives. But she was also inquisitive, and loyal, whilst also having the ability to stand up for herself (despite feeling vulnerable at times through her own fears and doubts), and even challenged The Doctor when she felt he was keeping things from her.
Ultimately, it's a simple answer of it'd be ace to see her come back. Not only because Ace is a badass character, but also so we can see see how she's grown since her last appearance. If the Cartmel Masterplan was anything to go by (alongside spin-off medias such as novels, comics, and Big Finish) then Ace was to be sent to Gallifrey to become a Time Lord, after The Doctor made her ready throughout their adventures together.
Of course, that begs the question of what happened to her during the Time War. Did she survive? It'd simply be nice to shed some light on the mystery of what became of Ace, and to see how she would react to the current events happening on the show.
