10 Doctor Who Characters Who Should Have Been Companions

The Tenth Doctors special episodes often had brilliant one-off characters, and the 2008 Christmas special "The Next Doctor" was no exception.

This episode introduced the eccentric Jackson Lake, played David Morrissey. Lake was a man from Victorian England who essentially became a new incarnation of The Doctor via Cyber technology.

Morrissey delivered a terrific performance in this episode. He managed to play both the parts of the brilliant Time-Lord and the vulnerable estranged father. This made him one of the most intriguing characters that the Tenth Doctor had encountered yet, so it was a shame when Lake didn't get to go on at least one adventure in the TARDIS.

Jackson Lake showed that he was strong, courageous, and human. All of these characteristics would make him the ideal companion for The Doctor, but sadly we never got to see any further interactions between Tennant and Morrissey.
