10 Doctor Who Characters Who Should Have Been Companions
2. Grace Holloway
Doctor Who: The Movie is a very underrated piece of Doctor Who canon. Paul McGann graced our screens for the first time as the Eighth incarnation of The Doctor, and with that came the introduction of a new heroine, Grace Holloway.
Holloway was a fiery character and her chemistry with Paul McGann was one of the reasons the Doctor Who movie worked like it did. While everything else in the movie can be argued as cheesy, the Doctor/Grace relationship actually stands out.
The character has depth as her motivations are revealed, specifically her reasoning for being a doctor in the first place. She balances the wide-eyed wonder with strong questioning which makes more of the Doctor's equal in this story.
Grace never returned to our screens after the TV movie and it is a shame that we haven't seen her encounter the Doctor again, even in their own series. Whether or not we see her down the road is a question that will remain unanswered for the foreseeable future.
