10 Doctor Who Couples That Created Unrealistic Expectations About Relationships

8. Rose Tyler And Mickey Smith

It's seemingly a little known fact within the Doctor Who universe that there was previously an abundance of companions before Rose Tyler (and, believe it or not, some of them were actually pretty good, too!), but Series 1 of NuWho was the first time, for better or for worse, that the show actively explored what happens to all the people that the Doctor's coveted friends choose to leave behind. Life, as they say, goes on, but for Mickey Smith it was an ordeal to say the very least. Not to sound like a broken record here, but Rose really didn't treat him very well, did she? For starters, she just assumed that he'd always be there ("Meet me in Cardiff and bring me my passport, Mickey...", "Help me rip open the heart of the TARDIS so I can get back to the man I actually care about Mickey..."), and then when he finally decided that enough was enough, and vowed to start afresh on a parallel universe, her first question was, "What about me?". Sorry, Rose, dear. Did Mickey stop thinking about you for a second there? Who does he think he is? Oh, and did she even apologise to him for the fact that he was forced to become a recluse in his own flat after being accused of her murder? Seriously, Rose. It's not all about you, you know. Let's be honest, if Doctor Who was on after the watershed (in others words, if it was Torchwood), there would probably have been whips involved. And not the Fifty Shades of Grey sort of whips, either. Just Rose blatantly whipping Mickey to do what she wanted, when she wanted, no matter how demoralising it would be for him. An unrealistic expectation about relationships? Well, yes. Because surely there isn't anyone on this Earth who is as much of a pushover as Mickey Smith? Hate to break it to you, but your hopes are in vain if you're waiting to meet that special someone who you can mentally and emotionally torture until they literally end up moving to a different universe just to get away from you. And then you still find a way of ruining their life. If you're anything like Rose, maybe you need to go and see a different kind of doctor. Just saying.
