10 Doctor Who Easter Eggs Hidden In Plain Sight

9. Magpie Branded Amp

Doctor Who Magpie Electricals amp
BBC Studios

The second series episode The Idiot's Lantern introduced Mr Magpie, the owner and operator of Magpie's Electronics. The Tenth Doctor and Rose encounter him as they arrive in the 1950s, though in the wrong country entirely. Their planned trip to meet Elvis Presley gets derailed, though they are in time to watch the coronation of Queen Elisabeth II.

However, The Wire, an alien who feeds through the screens of televisions, has possessed Magpie's Electronics, stealing the faces of those who spend too long in front of the box. Naturally, after the usual dashing to and fro, the Doctor is able to put things right again, although poor Mr Magpie is killed along the way.

Perhaps to honour him, the Doctor frequents his shop and seems to keep the business alive. The Twelfth Doctor, while discussing the bootstrap paradox, strums away on his guitar. As its an electric guitar, it needs to be connected to an amp and wouldn't you know it, the amp is branded as a Magpie original.

It's a blink and you'll miss it moment but a nice nod to the fans who pay attention.
