10 Doctor Who Episodes You MUST Watch Before The 60th Anniversary

9. The Power Of Three

Many of the characters returning for the 60th were revealed early on. But one whose involvement was kept under wraps until fairly recently is Kate Lethbridge-Stewart.

Including Fourteen, Kate has now encountered six Doctors (as many as her father did in the classic series), and every recent incarnation since the Tenth. And it all started eleven years ago, in The Power of Three.

The most recent trailer for the 60th sees Kate considering how to “fight the human race”. Her debut story saw her grapple with a similarly unorthodox alien invasion: a sudden wave of small black cubes, that survey humanity for a whole year before attacking.

From the off, Kate is a brilliantly badass character. And as a member of a real-life dynasty (albeit an acting one), Jemma Redgrave is perfectly cast as the Brigadier’s daughter.

The Power of Three also introduced the current iteration of UNIT, which, having survived a temporary closure, is back and stronger than ever.

With rumours rife of a UNIT spinoff and appearances confirmed for the 2024 season, the organisation looks to be playing a key role in RTD2. And this episode was the first step towards that bright future.
