When Sarah Jane Smith and Rose Tyler are comparing all the aliens they've faced in an attempt to one-up each other, Sarah quickly mentions the Anti-Matter Monster.

As one of the Doctor's longest-serving companions, she had countless foes to name-drop, but considering how dangerous this particular creature is, it's no surprise that she used it to flex her time-travelling credentials.

Alongside the Fourth Doctor, Sarah encountered the Anti-Matter Monster in the serial Planet Of Evil, where it went on a killing spree on the remote planet of Zeta Minor.

At the start of episode two, we see one of these kills in action, as the monster takes down a guard called O'Hara - but it's only from various lines of dialogue later in the serial that we truly understand the gruesome manner in which this alien dispatches its victims.

We're told that the Anti-Matter Monster kills people without damaging their organs, and without inflicting any contusions upon them. Rather, it takes life by completely extracting all bodily fluids from the tissue, causing total dehydration.

This process takes mere seconds to complete, and considering O'Hara's screams, the pain it causes is unimaginable.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
