10 Dumbest Things In Star Trek: Discovery

7. Picking up the TCW

Manny Coto, as discussed in the Ten Dumb Things in Star Trek: Enterprise article, made a very conscious decision to close down the Temporal Cold War for good or bad in Storm Front. The franchise moved on, and while it wasn't a clean severance of the storyline, it allowed season four to break out in new directions.

It sort of proved a point that the arc needed to finish and was right to do so. Which is probably why Discovery decided to pick up the baton and run with it for a few more seasons.

Not only that, but the series took a bold step to both dig further into the war's details and mix in some references to the Kelvin Timeline as well, just to overbake the proverbial cake.

Even by the finale of the series, it was revealed that (SPOILER) Doctor Kovich was none other than Archer's time-travelling contact Daniels, which bound the show even more closely to the Temporal Cold War. Discovery tried and tried and tried with this aspect of the lore to weave it into the fabric of the show. Indeed, a major aspect of Discovery was that season-ending time jump, but getting too technical proved a mind-bending step too far.

It did, however, provide the catalyst for Michelle Yeoh's Georgiou to be moved back in time. Georgiou had, like Lt Commander Yor, gradually seen the effects of temporal displacement, meaning her current timeline placement was no longer safe. If that hadn't happened, we'd have missed out on Section 31.

Take that in whichever way you want!

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
