10 Embarrassingly Shoddy Doctor Who Monsters

5. The Krotons

The Krotons get a lot of unfair criticism I think. I watched the story on DVD recently and I don€™t think it was bad at all, I thought the Krotons themselves were quite innovative. They can apparently be reduced to a dormant state as crystals suspended in fluid, harvesting mental energy to be revived. Now explain to me how along the line when they take on their full form that firstly they are machines complete with vacuum cleaner attachments and secondly why they have little skirts. The top half of the Krotons, while not seeming true to their origins and looking a bit like a box of noodles actually looks pretty respectable, if vaguely like an attempt to replace the Daleks. However the waist down is beggar€™s belief. No word of a lie, they are wearing little dresses under there. It is actually as if the designer did the top half, downed a bottle of wine and couldn't actually be bothered to do the rest. What is it even meant to be? Some sort of crystalline catheter? This absolutely ruins the Krotons credibility. Thankfully most shots only shoot them from the waist up it is possible to suspend disbelief for a while.
