8. 'Doctor Who' Is The Character's Name
Plenty of incarnations are credited at the end of the show as Doctor Who. Even Christopher Eccleston in 2005, after Peter Davison through to Paul McGann were credited 'The Doctor'. However, the main character of the show isn't actually called 'Doctor Who', or even the Doctor technically...
In the Name of the Doctor, the Eleventh Doctor says to Clara that the Doctor is a name he chose, as a form of promise. The character's real name has never actually been revealed, with very few actually knowing it.
But, I'm pretty sure we've all seen an occasion where someone has referred to the Doctor as 'Doctor Who'. The show itself, in World Enough and Time makes a meta joke about the show's title, with Missy claiming that 'Doctor Who' was his real name, but the Doctor claims that she was only winding Bill up.
Truth is, we don't know what the Doctor's real name is. But they call themselves the Doctor, and that's good enough. But they're not actually called Doctor Who.
