10 False Doctor Who Facts You Probably Believe
7. There Are Thirteen Doctors
So, as of writing this article, Jodie Whittaker is the current Doctor, and is number thirteen, so younger viewers (or those not paying attention), may think that there are only thirteen versions of the Doctor. But they would be wrong.
Even if you were to include, the War Doctor, the Meta-Crisis Doctor, the 'Fugitive' Doctor, and all the incarnations seen in the Timeless Child which are fan coined "pre-Hartnell", they'd still be way off. Granted, these are the official 'cannon' incarnations, but in wider Doctor Who, there are plenty more incarnations.
For example, there are two alternatives versions of the Ninth Doctor. Of course we have the marvelous Christopher Eccleston, but then there is also the Comic Relief incarnations, which showed Rowan Atkinson as the Ninth Doctor. However, this incarnation meets his end and we then see regenerations into Richard E Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and finally Joanna Lumley.
But that's not the last alternative incarnation Richard E Grant has played. Grant played another alternate Ninth Doctor, in Scream of the Shalka, an animated adventure. However, all these fun little adventures were replaced with the 2005 reboot.
So while these technically aren't 'canon', the Doctor has certainly had more than thirteen incarnations.
