10 False Doctor Who Facts You Probably Believe
5. The Doctor Is Half Human
Now, while this is technically not false, this 'fact' has only ever been mentioned in the Paul McGann TV Movie. In the 1996 special, the Doctor says he is "half-human on my mother's side". And that's it. This potentially HUGE piece of information is swept under the carpet and never mentioned again.
It has been mentioned many times by those involved with the show over the years, that this was simply the TV Movie's way of trying to put a stamp on the series. And since then, this 'fact' has been ignored.
Up until earlier in 2020, we simply thought the Doctor was all Gallifreyean. But the Doctor's origins seem to have been muddied even more after the Timeless Children hints that the titular Time Lord is something all the more unique.
But, something that will remain constant for the Doctor is the fact they are a Time Lord. This is another potentially false fact you may believe, is that the Doctor's species is that they're a Time Lord.
The Time Lords aren't actually a species, but more like a status given to a Gallifreyean as they complete the Academy. For example, the Doctors (human) companion Ace, became a Time Lord. So no matter the Doctor's origin, you could still say they are a Time Lord.
