Really, who else could it be? With the ratings slumping and interest waning, who better but this fan fave to get the viewers back on board? On top of this, it makes perfect sense within the Whoniverse to have our hero take on the face of the companion who embodied the Doctor as much as anyone.

There would definitely have been a few issues with casting Piper, primarily the worry that the show would be trading on nostalgia rather than moving forward. It also make for a weird dynamic considering the Gallifreyan's love of Rose, every glance in the mirror causing a potentially vain situation spiralling.

But at the end of the day Piper tops this list, because she just would have been such a damn good Doctor. Her ability to display humour, heart and resilience would have created a Doctor we could have all got around, with Piper able to add 'non-Rose' aspects to her characterisation.

People just love Billie, and Billie loved the show, putting her hand up for the role of The Doctor. Rather than being a step back, it would have been a number of steps forward, taking the show into uncharted territory that we all would have jumped on board.
