10 Female Actors Who Would Have Been A Better Doctor Who

8. Thandie Newton

Doctor Who
HBO

It's hard to find a more credentialed or high profiled British Actress than Newton to take over the high profile British role. Newton has shown herself adept in a variety of film roles, her emotional range displayed wonderfully in Crash, while also proving strong in action blockbusters such as Mission Impossible 2, Solo: A Star Wars Story and the disaster epic 2012.

Apart from being the first black person to take over the role of the Doctor, Newton's celebrity status would have been easy to market. She seems like the person you want to get behind, who you want to achieve, and would have brought equal parts feminine and masculine traits to the table.

The one question mark in regards Newton is her ability to have a more comedic or lighter touch to her acting, and with Norbit one of her few comedic roles, this is a genuine concern. Having said that, she is such a quality actor that she would no doubt rise to the challenge.
