Comedy cop show Brooklyn Nine-Nine is doing fantastically well and has garnered Golden Globe nominations so it's already fair to say that there's a market place for humorous cop shows, which offers good precedent for this one. The Heat director Paul Feig has already commented on making a spin off the characters played by Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin, but the issue with that spin-off is that those characters are barely memorable compared to the powerhouse team of Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. Denbo and Chaffin played Beth and Gina, who were part of McCarthy's cop character's extended family but are nowhere near as likable as the duo - quite the opposite in fact, and provocatively so. The approach should be to either bring back McCarthy and Bullock (which is entirely unlikely) or attempt to recast their characters (which might be difficult to pull off.) Either way, the dynamic between the cops needs to be centre-stage. TV is desperate for more strong lead female roles so a comedy cop show could be a breath of much needed fresh air. While we could see Melissa McCarthy returning to TV (she after all stars in Mike & Molly) I somehow can't see Sandra Bullock doing the same, after this film and Gravity she is big money at the box office, as she has been for years now. For the uptight, arrogant and condescending Sarah we see maybe a post 30 Rock showing from Tina Fey or Mary Louise Parker.
