10 Forgotten Movie Stars Who Were Saved By TV

4. James Spader

James Spader1 If you remember James Spader from the 80s, he had pretty much made a career out of being the arrogant little rich boy that you loved to hate. He was the douchebag in films like Pretty in Pink, and he played Yuppie Young Adult like no one else could. And during the 1980s, that was saying something. But then all of a sudden, he started flying totally under the radar throughout most of the next decade. Was it because his particular niche had lost a little bit of its relevance after the greed of the 1980s had given way to the cynicism of the 90s? Luckily, good actors have a tendency to bounce back, and it wasn't long until James Spader found a new home on television, as Alan Shore on The Practice and its spinoff Boston Legal. Three Emmys later, and Spader was back in a big way. Nowadays, you can see him as the delightfully malevolent Red Reddington, aka the Concierge of Crime, on NBC's The Blacklist. Because hey, when you find a medium that works for you, stick with it.
