10 Frightfully Good Doctor Who Audios For Halloween

5. Phantasmagoria

SUMMARY: The Doctor and Turlough land in 18th century London, in the house of Doctor Holywell, a collector of artefacts and a dabbler in the dark arts. Holywell claims to be communicating with spirits, something the Doctor can't quite believe - that is until a gentleman comes running down the street screaming, and dies right outside the house.

This suspicious death, and the apparent disappearance of several men in the area, make the Doctor think there might be something to Holywell's spirits after all. But as he begins to investigate, it becomes clear that they aren't just dealing with spectres, but something far more devilish...

WHY LISTEN? This story is written by the well-known writer and actor Mark Gatiss. A fan of horror - he did a documentary about horror films and one on MR James - this historical tale of terror is very much his style. It's an enjoyable adventure, with quick amusing dialogue, especially between two gambling gentleman who get sucked into the adventure - one of whom is played by Gatiss himself. Don't worry though, there is an element of gory horror in there too.
