10 Funniest Episodes Of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
7. Charlie Work (Season 10 - Episode 4)
Amidst all the anarchy that takes place in a standard episode of Sunny, it's easy to forget that the show isn't merely a chaotic romp. The show often features some brilliant examples of storytelling and direction too, never more so than 'Charlie Work', one of the latest season's most talked about episodes. The notion of "Charlie work", disgusting or difficult aspects of maintaining the bar, has been alluded to throughout the series - but Charlie's daily routine actually becomes the central focus here, and reveals him to be the show's most brilliant character. The plot of the episode is deliberately convoluted, with several interconnected schemes playing out in real time, a tangled web Charlie must frantically unpick in anticipation of a health inspection. The crowning moment of the show, and many fans' favourite part of the entire series, is the climactic tracking shot. The unbroken, seven-minute shot follows Charlie around Paddy's (and its surrounding alleyways) as his overarching plan comes to fruition. It's an example of fantastic directing from Matt Shakman, one which compliments the comedy of the episode, rather than overshadowing it.
