10 Great TV Shows Made From STUPID Ideas
4. Adventure Time
If you were to describe the events of just the first episode of Adventure Time to someone, they would think you and the people behind the show had just discovered a new type of hallucinatory drug. And to be fair, I'm not 100% convinced that ISN'T what gave birth to the idea of this story.
Describing the plot of Adventure Time to someone who's never even heard of it let alone seen an episode is akin to reading the mad scribbling off the walls of an insane asylum, so how is it that this is one of the best kids shows ever put to the screen?
Well, simply put, by being really funny, really creative, and cleverly hiding deeper elements behind its insane imagery and inane dialogue. Sure, Cartoon Network, for as much as they milked its popularity for all it was worth, hamstrung them in notable ways - like getting in the way of them letting Bubblegum and Marceline get together for years - but that just let them get away with a whole lot else while the censors weren't looking.
Adventure Time, on the surface, appears as the epitome of childish streaming of consciousness, and the early seasons of the show didn't do a lot to dissuade that. But like any stream, looking closer revealed something beautiful at the bottom.
