8. Two Beavers Are Better Than One How I Met Your Mother (S6E9)
There was serious consideration whether this song was appropriate for this list. If this episode were a drinking game and its only rule was drink every time you hear a sexual innuendo, it would be lethal. It's the third instalment of the Robin Sparkles backstory and this time, Barney has found a video tape of Robin co-presenting a kids' educational programme set in space. Nicole Scherzinger guest stars as Jessica Glitter and lends her lovely vocals to what becomes the episode's anthem. In an attempt to make amends for abandoning Robin when she had a baby, Glitter surprises Robin at The Hoser Hut and sings the song they used to sing together on the show, "Two Beavers Are Better Than One." This musical moment demonstrates how none of the stars, or their guest stars for that matter, take themselves too seriously. Cobie Smulders, especially, garners some admirable attention as she performs her duet alongside Scherzinger with commitment and unembarrassed dedication. Without going in to too much detail in regards to the many, many innuendos of the song, let's just say they're not the most subtle of sexual references as you can probably tell from the song's title. Or are we being crude by reading such dirty inferences in a song that is meant for children? Whilst Barney proclaims the song dirty, we're reminded by Marshall that actually it's just a sweet song about friendship and reaching out when you're lonely. Either way, it's a very catchy song which encourages audience participation in a way that will have you singing along by the reprise at the end of the show, even if you're blushing as you do...
