5. Gap Kids "Cool it Now"
We'll take a detour now from the more classic commercials and go modern for number five. Well about as modern as you could get in the 90's, and what screams 90's more that the Gap? The Gap, of course, was the official clothing brand of Generation X with a heck of an advertising campaign to boot that artistically displayed their dominance over the culture. Gap commercials usually featured the youngest hottest stars, coolest music, and inventive (i.e. sparse) direction. Their holiday Kids Gap ad from the late 90's was no exception - disregarding, of course, the lack of stars - but who needs stars when you have cool robotic dance moves, giant slides, ice skating and a mash up of New Edition's "Cool It Now" and an instrumental version of "Sleigh Ride?" That's right New Edition and "Sleigh Ride"...only in the 90's and only at Christmas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHTyt3omUj0
