10 Highly Questionable Actions Committed By Doctor Who

4. The 6th Doctor's Unbearable Costume

6th Docs Coat

While on the topic of the 6th Doctor, it's hard to ignore the retina-searing awfulness of his peacock-vomit costume, certainly the poorest sartorial choice for a Doctor ever. Yes, it does perfectly reflect the oversized brashness of his personality, only too well. The costume magnifies the arrogance and vanity Baker's Doctor emanates in waves, being so off-putting to the casual observer that it's hard, if not impossible, to identify with him. (And as a sidebar, what's the deal with the cat pin on the lapel? At least Davison's celery served a purpose.) The original plan was that the Sixth Doctor's character and outfit would mellow as time progressed in the series (and a toned-down version of his costume can be seen on the covers of various Sixth Doctor audio adventures), but Baker getting canned by the BBC put this plan on ice, thus ensuring that this wretched ensemble would forever be identified with the Sixth Doctor.

Hi there, What Culture-ers! I'm William Graff, a 40-year old freelance writer from the wilds of Capitol Hill in beautiful Denver, Colorado. I enjoy many things such as beer, Doctor Who, The Simpsons, record collecting, stand-up comedy, long aimless walks, and of course the Broncos, which is required by law if you live here. I appreciate all feedback for my writing, but I prefer cash and/or deleted Smiths singles in lieu of praise. Rock on!
