10 Horror TV Shows That Got Cancelled After Just One Season

7. Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels

Lovecraft Country
Showtime

It's hard for any spin-off or sequel to live up to the high expectations that were set by its successful and popular predecessor. That was certainly the case for City of Angels, a spin-off series to the Victorian-era London-set horror fantasy Penny Dreadful.

Taking place in the sunny and picturesque Los Angeles during the 1930s, away from the darkly grim streets of London, it tells multiple stories that follow the first Mexican detective hired by the LAPD to solve a mysterious murder case alongside his more experienced partner that may share some ties with secret agents of the Nazi party that's infiltrating the city. But this is actually all part of a large plan orchestrated by Magda, the demonic sister of Santa Muerte, who wants to cause as much death as she possibly can.

Despite being created by John Logan (who also made its forerunner) and starring Natalie Dormer after her stint on Game of Thrones, City of Angels was cancelled by Showtime due to low viewership.
